I recently learned of the passing of two of our accomplished and talented Botswana wood sculptors: Botlogile Bahuleng and Keemetswe Thola from the New Xade village on the outskirts of the Kalahari Game Reserve. These artists — part of the Tcorii sculptors group — inspired me with their their openness to new approaches, sense of humour, and sensitive interpretations of the natural world in their work. Both had the great gift of linking the message in the wood with their understanding of the Kalahari environment. Working together through the programmes of the Botswana Ministry of Basic Education, I felt we made a special and intimate connection.
Go well, fellow artists!
